I like being around people who can be silly. They laugh at themselves. They poke fun of me when I’m taking myself too seriously.
Most people (often me) can get incredibly stressed out over their problems as if they are the most serious, important and vital problems in the whole world. And they can feel that way, sure. But often if I can step back from a problem for a second, I can usually see how ridiculous it is to be so upset about it. And ridiculous things make me laugh, revealing the problem to be not so serious after all.
You can be successful, wealthy, talented etc etc, but if you treat yourself and your problems too seriously, you’re never going to have any fun. And other people won’t want to be around you. It’s a good reminder to myself for all the times when I know that I could just take a step back from a problem and look at what there is to giggle about.
I used to think I admired so many different qualities in myself and others I wanted to include in my life: drive, mindset, hunger, blah blah… I’m not so sure now. These things are important, but if we can’t laugh and enjoy ourselves, all of those things actually seem very far from important.
The best people I know can be silly, can step back, laugh at themselves and find the funny. I want to be (and be with) the person who does this, especially when it is hardest to do.
